First edition of the Open BIM Contest for Students promoted by CYPE

Stimulate creativity, innovation and recognise the effort of students in the use of the BIM work methodology as a response to the new technical and technological challenges faced by the construction sector. This is the aim of the first edition of the Open BIM Contest for Students promoted by CYPE and supported by BIMserver.center.

Until 30th June, teachers and their students who have completed educational projects on the BIMserver.center platform can participate in this contest. In order to participate, projects must have been created by a teacher in BIMserver.center Education and completed entirely by the students, incorporating a report written by the participating students with an explanation of the motivation of the project, the needs it covers and a brief justification of the adopted solutions for each discipline.

Are you a teacher and don't have an account yet?

With the launch of this contest, at BIMserver.center we want to promote training students around the world in the BIM work methodology, in a global technical context in which BIM is growing and gradually becoming a legal requirement for the design of buildings and public works. In this sense, it should be noted that in the last decade BIM methodology has been progressively implemented in different countries and some governments in the European Union (EU) already enforce or value its use in civil engineering projects, following the recommendations of the European Directive 2014/24/UE on Public Procurement.

The BIM contest awards for the best educational projects

At BIMserver.center we will award the three best projects after an evaluation carried out by a panel of engineers and architects from CYPE, the company sponsoring the contest. The awards that will be given are:

First place.

  • The winning project will receive a prize of €2,000, to be shared among students that form part of the project team
  • Certificates for teachers and students certifying their status as contest winners.
  • The chance for a student to enjoy up to 6 months of paid internship at CYPE. In projects where there is more than one student, the student will be chosen by the project teachers.

Second place.

  • The project that wins second place will be awarded a prize of €1000, to be shared among students that form part of the project team
  • Certificates for teachers and students certifying their status as winners

Third place.

  • The project that wins third place will be awarded a prize of €500, to be shared among students that form part of the project team
  • Certificates for teachers and students certifying their status as winners
